Group Descriptions

  • Please note that the implementation of Basic, Intermediate, or other social skills program will be determined by the developmental and social-emotional level of the participants.

Asperger/HFA Social Skills: Basic: To learn and implement basic social skills that are considered core deficits of students with Asperger's Syndrome/High Functioning Autism. Open to children recently diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome or other high-functioning autism spectrum disorders who have had minimal intervention in the past.


Asperger/HFA Social Skills: Intermediate: To expand the skills learned in Basic and increase implementation and generalization into multiple settings. Open to children previously diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome or other high-functioning autism spectrum disorders who have has some previous intervention, or older children newly diagnosed who may not be appropriate for the Basic group.


Social Skills for Young Adults: To learn and implement basic social skills required of post-high school life. Open to young adults with mild developmental delay who are enrolled in an educational or vocational program who need reinforcement of the fundamental social skills.

 

Anxiety Management: Designed for the student who struggles with anxiety due to academic pressures, high-stakes testing, social or family difficulties. The group will focus on providing the student with a new skill-set to cope with anxiety. General relaxation techniques will also be taught.


Grief: To assist elementary-aged students with the grieving process, foster the development of appropriate coping skills and maintain productivity in the classroom and at home.
