David G. LaBat, MSEd
Dave earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Minnesota, as well as taking graduate classes at Minnesota. Dave also completed one year at Minnesota Law School before deciding that Psychology was his calling. He finished his Master of Science in Education at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls. The Wisconsin program required completion of a Specialist equivalency, or about one and one-half years past the Masters degree. This practitioner-oriented program became one of the models for the National Association of School Psychologists accreditation program.
Dave is still Licensed as a School Psychologist in the State of Minnesota, where he practiced from 1981 until 2003. Dave also was a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Minnesota. He has practiced school psychology at every age from pre-school through adult with particular specialties in assessment, emotional disorders and interventions in anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Dave is a recognized crisis responder and was a chairperson of crisis teams. Dave was Lead Psychologist for many years at a major suburban district near Minneapolis where he had all responsibilities from staff recruitment to daily management of the department.
Dave’s private practice of psychology included assessment of giftedness, emotional disorders and therapy with children, adolescents and young adults.
Dave is also certified as a tennis professional by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). Related to this Dave has been an invited speaker on the subject of Sport Psychology to state, regional and national meetings of the USPTA. David has also twice presented on Sport Psychology to the Minnesota School Psychologist’s Association.
Dave has made numerous staff presentations on issues such as anxiety management, assessment techniques, behavioral interventions, eating disorders, self-harming behavior and instructional aides’ roles in behavioral intervention.
Dave is currently certified in the State of California as a School Psychologist, and is a Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP #2853). He currently is completing his California Association of School Psychologists Certification of Advanced Training in Crisis Response.
